This week I am a day late and a dollar short. This post’s questions are all about “Enough.” So let's get into it.
On to the questions:
1: “Enough is enough” is a tautology. Why does it communicate something anyway?
While being a tautology (enough = enough), it conveys that whatever caused the statement to be said has transitioned from “enough” to “too much.”
2: When is something you’ve made good enough? Is “good enough” generally a healthy standard or an excuse?
Sometimes “good enough” is determined by deadlines. Actually, sometimes people cannot leave well enough alone and continue to ruminate on projects trying to approach the impossible “perfect…” Sometimes in doing so, they overdo it and good enough transitions to utter crap.
3: How much sleep is enough sleep for you?
Good sleep is 7.5 hrs
Enough sleep is 6 hours
Typical sleep is 4-5 hours
4: Is there a food you genuinely cannot get enough of?
Honestly, I have a hard time not eating cheesecake. If it is in the house, it typically gets consumed until it isn’t.
5: At what point does confidence become arrogance?
Hmmmm… that is an interesting one, because it is different for everybody. When confidence is used to belittle others it transitions into arrogance.
6: When have you stayed at something longer than you should have because you’d already invested too much in it?
Oh, sunk-cost is real. I am trying to think of a specific instance… Probably staying at my first career job for a bit longer than I should have.
7: Complete the sentence without overthinking it: There is never enough ________.
Time.
8: How much should someone know about a subject before they’re entitled to have an opinion about it?
Oh, I am not a gatekeeper for things. I think there is probably an amount that is necessary to take a person’s opinion seriously, but people are always entitled to their opinions.
9: When is an apology enough?
Sometimes never… but the only apology that can be enough has to have 3 components.
1: An account of the transgression (what happened)
2: An acknowledgment (or acknowledgement for my Queen’s English readers… or is that “King’s English” now?) of the pain caused by the transgression and taking responsibility for your actions
3: A plan for how to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
10: How many coincidences does it take before you start suspecting they aren’t coincidences
Correlation is not causation, but sometimes overwhelming coincidences can highly suggest causation… let’s say 6. Yeah, 6 will do the trick.
11: When does explaining something become overexplaining?
When it is a less skilled/experienced man explaining something to a more qualified/experienced woman.
12: Can someone ever have enough knowledge?
I don’t think so… that being said people can have not enough though.
13: How much praise is too much praise?
When I start rolling my eyes.
14: What is something you wish you were better at, despite being perfectly competent at it?
Drawing. I am competent at drawing, but I would love to be significantly better.
15: How much frosting is enough frosting?
No such amount.
16: At what point have you done enough to help someone?
Often when it shifts from being welcomed and starts being expected.
17: If you had enough money that working became completely optional, what would you do with your Tuesday?
Probably sleep in. Sleep debt is real.
18: When someone yells, “ENOUGH!!!” after someone keeps doing something… Why don't they yell “TOO MUCH!!!”? That's what they mean…
That is a good question… ummm… I think they are suggesting that the person doing the annoying thing has hit the “enough” mark because the person being annoyed has had too much. Also… are you surprised that people don’t say what they mean?
19: When is something better than nothing, and when is it not enough to bother?
Something that is better than nothing is a battery charge… when is it not enough to bother… don’t even bother with an apology that includes “but.”
20. If enough is enough, is too much more than enough—or is it something categorically different?
A little of Column A too much of Column B
That is enough of that.
To recap:
I’m hungry right now
Need to be drawing more
I need to draw more and write more
That being said, I am working 2 jobs and have freelance work on the side
I sleep maybe 4 to 5 hours a night
I am exhausted
So, I am hungry and tired and need to really hit the creative outlets hard
I really have a great idea for a book
Seriously good idea… but a book ain’t gonna write itself
But good book ideas are a dime a dozen
And they are not books
They are just ideas
On Question 20 for an interview
It is an amazing one
The contract work is really fun
The store work is very retail
The freelance work is very sparse
The mortgage, at the moment, is very paid.
Pretty sure next post is going to be in interview
Also thinking about doing a 20 questions using ChatGPT’s voice interaction
Not sure where that one will go
Might give it the topic of just “Artificial Intelligence" and see what happens
Do the substack thing
Do the medium thing
Have a great week
